William's ER Visit

William had a visit to the ER this last Friday night. He was showing off his dance moves to "Dama Taren" (Grandma Karen) who brought Emily up for a long weekend. He was so excited to see them and show them his moves. He was jumping and rolling in odd ways and happened to land in an awkward way on his right arm. It was pretty clear when he started to stand up from his landing that something was not right.

He started to cry and would not move his hand or fingers. He was very protective of it and would not allow us to touch it. Grandma and I decided to take him to have it checked out. There were x-ray's done, which required some very painful manipulation of his arm in order to get the right angles. Needless to say, this was not a fun event. The doctor did not see a break. He splinted the arm and recommended we see an orthopedic doctor on Monday.

Settled in at home on Saturday. It was a movie day, for the most part. He received a bendable skeleton from the x-ray technicians.



The orthopedic doctor took another set of x-ray's through the splint. No broken bones! He saw a slight separation of the joints in the shoulder. He thought that would heal on it's own. Will continues to complain about pain in his forearm and wrist. His hand had been quite swollen over the weekend and past few days. We've been able to control some of the pain with medication.

He seems to be doing better today. Still sensitive, but able to play. It was his first day back at daycare and he was already getting yelled at for trying to climb up the outside 'climber' equipment (covered with snow and ice) with one arm. I think I need to invest in a helmet and suit of armor... maybe a plastic bubble too!!
