Pre-surgery bath time fun. Will likes putting bubbles above and below his lips to have a goatee like daddy.

Getting suited up & playing with the finger heart rate monitor.

After the nurse listened to Will's heart, she put the stethoscope in to Will's ears and let him hear his heart beat. He thought that was really cool.

They had to re-draw Will's blood (red band on his left arm). The first results showed one of his clotting factors was elevated, indicating his blood may not clot like it should. It was only a slight elevation, but the doctor wanted them to re-run the test to see if it was an error. It was still slightly elevated. The doctor did not have any problems with bleeding during surgery and we've never seen any problems. Not sure if it will be an issue in the future.

Watching television before he goes into surgery. He got onto the gurney and rode away into surgery without a fuss or even looking back for us. The nurses were waving and greeting him as he traveled to surgery.

The surgery started around 8am and was done by 8:45am. When he was done, the doctor came to let us know he did well. I went back into recovery to see Will. Matt argued with me about who would go back, as he wanted to go. I got up and go to the door faster, so I won!! You snooze, you loose!! HA!
The doctor decided to admit him over night for observation due to his age. It was a good thing. He would not take fluids and being on the IV was necessary.

Daddy met us up in his room and cuddled up next to Will for the first few hours. He was in a lot of pain. The nurses were great with pain management.

A teen staying in the room next to Will's and her mother brought over one of her balloons to give to Will. She looked pretty sick and I think she had some chronic medical problems. Will loved it and has been wanting it by him since we've been home.

We tried everything we could think of to see if Will would eat or drink something or at least swallow. One last resort was offering a sucker - which he nodded that he would try. (He usually shook his head 'no' to anything offered). The nurse didn't have any suckers, but found an employee who had some in her purse. Here Will is contemplating eating the sucker...

He tries it!! He held it to his lips for a little while before giving it back to me.

Eventually he opened a gift from auntie Ashley, which had suckers in it, and here he is with one of those. The video of him opening his present in the hospital is in the next blog below.

Just taking a break...

We were finally discharged around noon on Friday. He made the goal of drinking 8 oz of juice in an hour. We struggled to get that down and at home it did not get better for awhile. He generally refuses fluids and trying to get him to drink one sip can take awhile... it's exhausting for all involved. William is a very strong-willed child and if he does not want to do something, there is little you can do to change his mind.

We tried a lot of different tactics. Since he wasn't taking fluids, his temperature started going up. If it hit 101 orally, we'd have to take him back to the hospital to be assessed for dehydration. He hovered between 100.2 & 100.9... Matt started getting creative and got Will to take fluids. Here they are 'playing', but also getting Will to take fluids - with a smile!

He even said he'd try a popsicle!

That didn't last long...

Watching movies and trying to take sips...
